Cancer is a battle for many people and many believe that once you have it you have almost zero opportunity to overcome this difficult ordeal. Because of this, humanity has declared a war against it with doctors trying to find methods who will help to find something that could cancer cells.
Many scientists have shown that the use of cannabis on different treatment, have worked efficiently to combat all types of diseases, moreover, many historians have discovered that it has been used for centuries as a plant medicine by our ancestors all over the world, that’s why a new study has tried to prove that the use of this miraculous plant could help those who have cancer.
These studies are not really new because in 1974 examinations proved that cannabis has anti-tumor effects. This was reported by the Washington Post who did a research in different labs and discovered that the main component of cannabis (THC), ”slowed the growth of lung cancers, breast cancers and virus-induced leukemia in laboratory mice, and prolonged their lives by as much as 36 percent.”
In 1975 another article about the topic was published, only that this time it was the Journal of the National cancer institute who made the research and titled it “Antineoplastic Activity of Cannabinoids,” they said that “Lewis lung adenocarcinoma growth was retarded by the oral administration of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabinol (CBD). Mice treated for 20 consecutive days with THC and CBD had reduced primary tumor size.”
Although the FDA still refuses to recognize the value of cannabis as a treatment for cancer and other diseases, there are over 10 drugs that are cannabis-derived, and have been approved for cancer and other disease-related side effects, moreover, more and more states in the US have started to approve the use of cannabis as medical treatment.
It wasn’t until 1998 that a research team at Madrid’s Complutense University-Led by Dr. Manuel Guzman discovered that tetrahydrocannabinol could help to eliminate brain tumor cells without negatively impacting surrounding healthy cells and spreading the fatal disease to the rest of the body.
There are over 20,000 published reviews and studies about the effects of cannabis in the human body, almost universally, they have concluded that the compounds present in cannabis have the ability to kill brain cancers that neither chemotherapy or radiation can touch.
Researchers believe that cancerous cells are so highly targeted by cannabinoids because they contain a higher number of Cb1 (mainly found in the brain, but also found in the heart, liver, kidneys, and pancreas), and Cb2 (found in the immune cells) sites, thus making them more susceptible to cell death.
At first, cannabinoids don’t have an immediate effect when they enter a cancerous cell, still, after some time they will induce apoptosis (otherwise known as programmed cell death). In other words, the cancer cells commit ”’suicide”.
There is also an organization called The SETH Group that showed compounds in cannabis can stop the growth of human glioblastoma multiform (GBM) brain cancer cells. The SETH Group says “No chemotherapy can match this nontoxic anti-cancer action.”
In the recent years, some scientists have tried to prove that THC can help to fight metastasis and make it stop in many kinds of aggressive cancer. This is what it happens when you inject THC into cancer cells:
Maybe we will have to wait a little bit more until the cure for cancer can be found, but we can be sure that we are closer thanks to these studies. If you want to help this cause, try to stop people from spreading the idea that cannabis is a drug so it can be destigmatized by our society.
